Getting Ready

In the academic world it’s ‘Spring Break’ time, and some of our classmates are lucky enough to be heading off to sunnier climes to recharge the batteries. We know some folks that are off to Costa Rica, Spain, Hawaii, Africa to name but a few of the exotic locations.
The Polar Vision team are off to Iqaluit
Never heard of it? It’s okay - We hadn’t either, but we’re very excited to be going as it is the first major milestone for the Polar Vision team.
Iqaluit is the territorial capital of the Canadian territory of Nunavut. From 20-29 March the team will be there for polar expedition training in temperatures dropping to as low as -30 degrees celsius.
Training in Iqaluit will cover all important aspects of a polar expedition, including:

- Skiing techniques

- Navigation & route finding

- Clothing systems

- Nutrition

- Communications

- Cold weather injuries

The team’s training will culminate with a four day mini expedition to practice “The Art of Polar Travel”.
We’re delighted to announce that also joining the team is filmmaker Matt Peters, who is one of the members of
Captured Life Productions. CLP recently completed a documentary titled Through the Roof, which is a story of the first female paraplegic to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro - the highest point in Africa.
Matt is kindly helping us to document and tell the Polar Vision story, we’re really excited to have such talent within the team!
Completing this training has been made possible through the generous support of The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, the Haas School at UC Berkeley, Kevin and Punam Keller, Revo, and a number of other supporters.
Thanks to all - we will be back in touch soon to let you know what we have learned and with some good footage and pictures (and all fingers and toes in good order…), after that it’s next stop Antarctica!
